About Jack Allston
The Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation has announced the new Executive Director of their organization will be Jack Allston, CEcD, FM, IOM, HLM of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Jack has spent almost 40 years in the field of economic development working throughout North America and Canada. For nine years, he was a manager of site selection for Paragon Decision Resources, a major site selection and relocation company. He has been a senior consultant for the New Mexico Economic Development Partnership and conducting consulting studies in the state and elsewhere in North America often with the Foote Consulting Group.
He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell with B.S., Business Administration, Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts; and a Masters in Labor Economics, Graduate, Institute for Organization Management through the US Chamber of Commerce, Graduate, Economic Development Institute (EDI) in 1983. He served as thesis advisor and discussion leader for EDI for ten years. He became a Certified Economic Developer (C.E.D.) in 1983 and for eight years a member of the Certification Board of the American Economic Development Council; Fellow Member (FM), American Economic Development Council, winner of the Distinguished Service Award from that council in 1993. He served for many years as an adjunct faculty member in economics at University Massachusetts at Lowell, Merrimack College and later Fairmont State University in West Virginia. He was awarded an Honorary Life Membership (HLM) for life time mentoring and dedication the profession of economic development by the International Economic Development Council in 2013.
He began his career in Lawrence, MA in 1975, and spent time in economic development positions and Chambers of Commerce in Mt. Vernon, IL, the Adirondack region of New York, and Clarksburg, West Virginia, where he was specifically employed to spearhead the move of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) from Washington, DC to West Virginia accounting for 3000 jobs. From 1987 to 1990 he served as the first director of the Ellis County Economic Development Coalition in Hays, as well as the President of the Hays Chamber of Commerce.
He completed site selection work for Reliastar/ING, Becton Dickinson, EMD Chemicals, Northwest Airlines and a new corporate headquarters location for La Quinta Hotels inDallas. He has worked on dozens and dozens of site locations and expansions of companies such as: CB Sports, New Balance Atheletic Shoe, Yuasa-Exide, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, CR Bard, Mallinkrodt, Nationwide Insurance, Hewlett-Packard, United Merchants and Manufacturers, James River.
Jack has resided in Rio Rancho, New Mexico for the last six years with his wife, Dr. Tetyana Allston, former chair of the Music Department at Sumy State University in Sumy, Ukraine, a piano accompanist and teacher as well as a part-time performer. Her son, Oleksandr, lives with them and attends New Mexico Highlands University in the graduate program in media technology. His sons Ryan and Jacob are both sound editors and technicians and Jacob won an Emmy in 2009 for sound editing. Jack has three grandchildren, Orion, Nevaeh and Adalia.
The Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation have hired Jessica Venneberg of Onaga as Executive Assistant. Jessica has been employed by Community Healthcare System, Inc in Onaga for the last six years reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. She had previously worked for the Pawnee Mental Health Center and First Trust Company of Onaga. Jessica is a 2000 graduate and valedictorian at Onaga High School and also graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration at Emporia State University. Jessica and her husband, Scott, have three children, Kylie, Keagan, and Carter. Scott is employed at Bob’s Service in Onaga. Scott is also fire chief and on the city council in Onaga. Jessica was chosen for the position after a month search in which over 35 candidates applied.
Jessica started employment at PCEDC on October 15, 2014. Her duties include office management, accounting and finance as well as assisting small businesses with loan development and managing the revolving loan fund through Network Kansas. She will also take on needed projects and work closely with other organizations in the county. Jessica is working closely with Pottawatomie County school districts along with Kansas Works to implement Work Keys testing to become a work ready county. She is also a certified Economic Development Finance Professional with the National Development Council.
