Steering Committee Minutes

Minutes from initial organizational meeting of the
Pottawatomie County Home Town Competitiveness Steering Committee
held in the Sunflower room of the Pottawatomie County Building,
612 Campbell Street, Westmoreland, KS
December 7, 2004

Bob Cole called the meeting to order at approximately 11:30 a.m. after everyone had a chance to get some pizza and soda that he graciously provided. He thanked everyone for taking time away from their busy schedules and expressed optimism by the size of the turnout.

Initial order of business was to select an "interim" chairperson for the organization. Main duties of the chair would be to facilitate communication and cooperation among the task forces, and to schedule and run steering committee meetings.

Lance McCormack was nominated and seconded, and was elected by unanimous vote.

Next Bob suggested that we organize into the four primary task forces: Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Youth Development/Attraction, and Asset Development.

I captured the following names associated with each task force:

Leadership Entrepreneurship Youth Development/Attraction Asset Development
Chan Stowell, Chair Brian Wells, Chair Shawn Lane, Chair Mike Rice, Chair
Jerry? Bruce Ward Justin Boswell Lois Hellebust
Allen Schaper Chad Bunger Jamie Bell Doug Springer
Don Teske Jim Ginavan Merl Page Bill Ditto
Amy Okeson Chad Jackson Les Streit Jim Moore
John Addessi Helen Pauly

Next, each task force went about organizing, identifying chair, vice chair, secretary, mission, etc. The main deliverable from the task forces was a list of actions, deadlines, and responsible individuals. These were shared with the entire steering committee.

Lance suggested that the task force chairs meet on January 11 at 1:00 in Wamego to monitor initial progress.

Meeting adjourned at approximately 1:00 p.m.
