Government
Pottawatomie County and the City of Manhattan jointly govern that portion of the East Manhattan/Blue Township area, which is primarily commercial and industrial. In that area, city zoning requirements prevail and the City provides utilities.

Services
Emergency Medical (ambulance) Services are the shared responsibility of the Manhattan Fire Department and the Riley County EMS service. Fire services are shared between the Blue Township Fire Department and the Manhattan Fire Department and the Law Enforcement duties are shared by the Riley County Police Department and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Department. A long history of these agencies working together has resulted in an efficient allocation of emergency and law enforcement service to this shared area, based on the specific location of the emergency occurrence and the nearest available resource.

The balance of this area is where the "city and the country meet" east of the east boundary of the City of Manhattan. This is a transitional area, made up of a mix of older residential areas, rapidly developing new subdivisions, farms and ranches, as well as large and small businesses and industries, including those in our Green Valley Business Park.
