Education and Health Care in St. George.

Education
St. George lies in USD 323, Rock Creek Schools, headquartered in Westmoreland. www.rockcreekschools.org The district maintains two elementary schools, one in St. George and one in Westmoreland, and a combined junior/senior high school near the community of Flush.

USD 323 is a progressive school system, which places great emphasis on outcome-based general education as well as school-to-work programs.

St. George Elementary School recently conducted its annual student achievement evaluations and was pleased to report that its K-6 students had dramatically improved reading and writing skills, a majority at or above grade level.

Rock Creek Jr./Sr. High School lies only 6 miles north of St. George. It enjoys attractive new buildings, a state of the art athletic complex and ample grounds for expansion. USD 323 is currently working on a bond issue for expanded classroom and gymnastic space.

Kansas State University (www.ksu.edu) lies only 7 miles west of St. George in Manhattan. Kansas State University is a full university, supporting a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs and a robust and diverse research community. One of the original public land grant institutions in the country, Kansas State is noted for educational excellence, affordability, and the quality of its athletic teams.

Manhattan Area Technical College (www.matc.net) provides basic and advanced technical training in automotive, construction and related industrial skills, as well as general education for its students.

Highland Community College (www.highland.cc.ks.us) which provides many of the core curriculum courses required by four-year universities as well as adult continuing education and technical training is located only six miles east in Wamego.

Other area universities providing diverse BA, MA, Ph.D. and Law School opportunities, include Washburn University 40 miles east in Topeka (www.washburn.edu) and the University of Kansas 75 miles east in Lawrence (www.ku.edu).

The Wamego Community Hospital

A number of private physicians, clinics and other health providers complement our inpatient services. Specialty health care services are available in both Manhattan and Topeka.
