Westmoreland
may not be "the" center of the universe, but it is the approximate
center of our county and the seat of our county government! Westmoreland
is less than 30 minutes from any other point in the county and only
25 minutes from a growing regional service center.
A city-developed subdivision continues to make affordable home sites
available to an increasing number of young families. An outstanding
school system provides quality elementary education in Westmoreland.
Upper grades are taught mere minutes away in a consolidated school.
Our award-winning, locally owned, community bank provides capital for
investment and outstanding community service support. A privately owned
business park offers virtually free land to new industries. This progressive
small town already boasts its own grocery, pharmacy, auto dealership,
auto repair, health clinic, assisted living and long term care services
among others.
Westmoreland is a major Oregon-California Trail historic site! It was
the location of the famous Scott Springs Campground on the Trail, at
which some 300,000 pioneers rested on their way west between 1842 and
1870. Scott Springs Park, pioneer graves, visible ruts, and a major
historic museum complex offer visitors a rare glimpse into the past
in this rich historic area.
Try the brand-new RV park with shower, laundry and shelter house facilities,
near the city swimming pool, for a great place to stay while you're
visiting Westmoreland. One of the largest hand-dug wells in the U.S.,
completely restored - and the second oldest continuously operating stone
county courthouse in Kansas - add to the attractions in Westmoreland.
