Parks and Recreation

Each community in Pottawatomie County boasts an attractive city park. Most offer RV parking. Most have public swimming pools and outdoor tennis, softball fields and basketball courts.

There are approximately 15,000 acres of wildlife refuges, one major federal reservoir, three county lakes, two private lakes, and five state parks in Pottawatomie County. The State of Kansas maintains state parks at three locations in Pottawatomie County, along the east side of Tuttle Creek Reservoir. The state also maintains parks at Pottawatomie County Lakes No. 1 and 2.

Over 100 miles of scenic drives, hiking and biking trails have been mapped throughout the county. Individual state parks offer almost 30 miles of equestrian, hiking and biking trails as well.

Pottawatomie County offers some of the best hunting in the State of Kansas for upland game birds, migratory waterfowl, and, especially, deer and wild turkey.

Both Westmoreland and Onaga offer extensive RV camping. Westmoreland has a new RV park, with 16 fully equipped sites and 4 tent camping sites, as well as a laundry/shower facility which doubles as a storm shelter. Onaga has several dozen RV camping sites on or near the Pottawatomie County Fairgrounds.

RV camping is also available in all State Parks.
