Attractions

The OZ Museum, located in Downtown Wamego, houses over 2,000 artifacts from the famous 1939 film. Inside, the museum is filled with artifacts, books, clothing, and other materials dating back to the early 1800’s. 

Similar to the OZ Museum, the OZ Winery was created in support of the famous movie: The Wizard of OZ. They have tours and a variety of wines for sale. 

The Wamego Historical Museum, is a must see when visiting Wamego’s City Park. It is home to a familiar Kansas landmark, the Dutch Mill and Prairie Town Village. 

Located in Westmoreland, the Rock Creek Valley Historical Society is a museum that highlights the early years of Westmoreland as historic site to the famous Oregon Trail.

The Onaga Historical Society Museum Complex has several attractions such as the Victory school house, three legged windmill, Union Pacific caboose, and more.

Located within St. Marys, The Indian Pay Station and Museum Complex as well as the St. Mary’s Historical society were founded in 1969. This museum is the site of the original “pay station” which was used by the United States Government for payments made to the Potawatomie though a series of treaties. In 1857, the Indian Agency was established and the original building, which still stands, was constructed. Today the museum complex is made up of three buildings which share the history of the movement of the Potawatomie, the St. Mary’s Mission, the early town of St. Marys and artifacts from early days.
The museum is open daily from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM and at other times by appointment.

Performance

The Colombian Theatre, is a historic museum and art center located in Wamego for over 100 years. This recently renovated theatre is an elegant place for the entire community to gather. 

Located in Wamego, CATTS Gymnastics & Dance, is home to a growing number of young athletes. They have classes in dance, gymnastics, and cheer. 

Bates Dance Studio, located in Manhattan, is focused on helping students learn, develop, and perform current dance skills and techniques.

Events

Each spring, the City of Wamego comes alive with thousands of visitors for the Tulip Festival. Over 150 art & craft vendors come together at Wamego City Park. 

The 4th of July Celebration is the #1 ranked firework show in Kansas. There is a full weekend filled with a parade, carnival, great food vendors, and more. 

OZtober Fest is held annual to celebrate one of America’s best-known fairy tales – The Wizard of Oz! This event is held in downtown Wamego for a variety of activities including our OZ Costume Contest, Car Show, Munchkinland, OZ Market, Beer Garden, live entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities, and more. 

Pottawatomie County Fair is a 4 day fair held in Onaga the first week of August each year. The fair has a carnival, games, crafts, food, and 4-H Livestock Exhibits. 

The Flint Hills Shakespeare Festival has been a successful event held on the grounds of St. Mary’s College each fall. The goal of this event is to provide patrons with a classical outdoor theater experience. 

Olsburg is a small Swedish Community that hosts the Olsburg Fall Festival annually. This festival celebrates local heritage with a parade, rodeo, games and other activities to enjoy.
