Health Outcomes
Health outcomes in the County Health Rankings represent measures of how long people live and how healthy people feel. Length of life is measured by premature death (years of potential life lost before age 75) and quality of life is measured by self‐reported health status (percent of people reporting poor or fair health and the number of physically and mentally unhealthy days within the last 30 days) and the % of low birth weight newborns. Pottawatomie County has a sufficient amount of dental health professionals in the area. According to the Kansas Statistical Abstract in 2016, Pottawatomie county is not designated as a Dental Health Professional shortage area or a Primary Care Health Professional shortage area. Cancer deaths per 10,000 people are, on average, lower than the state of Kansas with a rate of 12.8 and 18.49, respectively. According to Census Reporter, Pottawatomie County also has a higher fertility rate than the United States and Kansas with a rate of 8.7% for women between the ages of 15 and 50 who gave birth last year.

Wamego City Hospital is a 25-bed facility. There are several general practitioners on staff, as well as a number of associate and courtesy staff specialists. Emergency care is provided in a new state-of-the-art emergency facility. The hospital also has its own laboratory, radiology & physical therapy departments, CT Scan, and MRI services.
