The Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation (PCEDC) is a 501 (c)(6) not-for-profit corporation recognized by the State of Kansas and the I.R.S. since 1991. 

According to our charter “The purposes and objects of the Corporation are to encourage local businesses and industries to expand and new businesses and industries to locate in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, by implementing a comprehensive program of economic development. The Corporation may engage in any activities not precluded by law in furtherance of these purposes and objects.” 

The corporation is served by a 13-member board of directors representing business and community interests across the county and within our region. Board members are appointed by the board of county commissioners on a revolving basis; 3 from each commission district, 3 at-large and 1 permanent position reserved to Evergy (formerly Westar Energy), the largest payer of property tax in the county. 

The core operating budget of the corporation is annually financed by county appropriation, doubled by significant private sector and other partner investments. Use of private investor funds is segregated in the action funds.

Investor funds are reserved to take action on 6 strategies: Capacity, Infrastructure, Workforce, K-State Partnerships, Community Enhancement, and Marketing.

The corporation owns three business and industrial parks in fee simple, developing and selling land from each accumulates capital used to finance infrastructure, and to back-fill operations when it has been necessary.
